Motorcycle Shipping

Motorcycle Shipping

There are a lot of bonuses to purchasing a motorcycle in your local area. First of all you can get a good look at the bike in person. You can also get on the bike and maybe give it a spin as well. And you can easily have someone bring you to the dealership or to the home of the owner of the bike so that you can drive it home. There are also, however, many problems with purchasing motorcycles in your local area, including the fact that you're much more likely to pay more for your bike in person than you are if you purchase a bike online.

Shipping

Many shy away from purchasing a motorcycle online simply because they believe that shipping a motorcycle will be too expensive to even contemplate. They imagine a bike that they've purchased falling off of some huge 18-wheeler, or being banged up during transport. The truth is that it's not only affordable to ship a bike from province to province, but it's also very safe.

There are a number of companies that make their living on shipping bikes from one place to another, and while they often ship motorcycle for companies, they are always willing to take on a private bike sale and will likely deliver the bike directly to your doorstep. It doesn't matter what city you're in, whether it's a large city like Toronto or Montreal, or a smaller city on the outskirts of Edmonton, these companies are capable of bringing your newly purchased bike safely from the seller to you.

Getting a Shipper

Before you buy any bike, make sure that you have a shipper lined up. There are a number of shippers available to choose from making it easy to find one that you'll be comfortable with. Your seller may have a shipper that they've worked with before, so be sure to ask them if they have any recommendations for you.

If you're not sure which shipper to use, look to the internet. The internet will show you a number of motorcycle shippers who are very reliable to work with. Once you find the name of one that looks interesting, and that has an affordable shipping rate, look online to see if you can find any reviews of the company simply by typing in the name of the company with the word "reviews" after it. This will likely show you any reviews that can be found about that specific company, making it easy for you to know if it is a company that you can trust in or not.

Who Pays the Fee?

Trying to decide who is going to pay the fee, however, can be much more difficult than finding the right shipper. Both sides will inevitably feel as though the other side should have to pay the fee. Here's a good tip: if you're the seller and you want your buyer to pay the fee, make sure that you consider that and lower the price of the bike a bit to make it easier for the buyer to pay the fee. A buyer who wants the seller to pay the fee for shipping should make it known from the very beginning that they do not want to have to pay for shipping, and should realize that the price of the bike may go up a bit in order to accommodate for the added fees. Many find that by splitting the cost of the shipping, both buyer and seller are happy. Although the buyer should in most cases take responsibilty for shipping accomodations.

Make sure you ask any shipping company what their policies are on motorcycle shipping, and what they will do, specifically, to keep your bike safe from harm. Don't be scared to purchase a motorcycle online simply because you're worried that the shipping will be too expensive. Instead start looking for a reliable shipping company before you buy so that once you find the bike you've been looking for, you'll be able to have it from the sellers doorstep to yours in very short order.
